A2 The Kentucky Standard Wednesday, April 17, 2024 OBITUARIES Paul Franklin Thurman, 86 Paul Franklin Thurman, 86, of Bardstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, with family by his side at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. He was born on Jan. 23, 1938 in Samuels to the late Owen and Carlene Loveland Thurman. Paul worked for KY Solite in Shepherdsville, was a lifelong member of St. Gregor Catholic Church, where he was on the bereavement committee and helped with the church picnic.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Paul loved fishing, hunting, mushroom and turkey hunting. He was an avid gardener, liked taking walks, and loved to go riding in his golf cart. Paul loved to cook chicken soup, play the guitar, old countr music and family gatherings.

He loved saying the rosar ever night. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Wilson Thurman; a daughter, Cindy Thurman; sisters, Martha Cahoe, Kathleen Faulkner, Gonda Thompson, Mar Thurman and Lina Cundiff; and his brothers, Jim and Larr Thurman. Paul is sur vived by three sons, Bill (Donna) Thurman, Kenny (Sandy) Thurman and Michael (Lisa) Thurman, all of Bardstown; his daughter, Patty (David) Martin of Bardstown; his sisters, Carolyn Downs and Kathy Spalding, both of Bardstown; a brother, Joe Thurman of Bardstown; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, at St.

Gregory The Great Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kien Nguyen celebrant. Interment will be in St. Gregory Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, from 3 to 8 p.m.

Joseph Smith, 85 Joseph Smith, 85, a resident of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He dedicated 28 years to working for Transport Releasing Company in Louisville. Harold was a loyal member of a 12-step program where his strength, compassion and wisdom touched the lives of many. He had 52 years of continuous sobriety, lived by his favorite saying, had a drink all embracing the principle of day at a in every aspect of his life. He was a good Samaritan, always going above and beyond, showing kindness and support whenever needed, regardless of the circ*mstances.

His willingness to go the extra mile made a meaningful difference in the lives of others, whether it was offering a listening ear or simply being there for someone in need. Harold also enjoyed going to auctions, collecting antiques, working on cars, riding his Schwinn bicycle and spending time with his faithful companion, Girl He was preceded in death by his parents, Hughie and Margaret Miles Smith, of Culvertown; his son, Jeffrey Smith; two brothers, Danny Smith and Kenny Smith; and two sisters, Mary Lois McFelia and Joyce Anne Smith. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Patsy Cecil Smith, of Elizabethtown; two sons, Jimmy Smith (Melissa) and Jason Smith (Heidi), along with his two daughters, Stephanie Cottrell (Kevin), and Melanie Whitlock (Barry). He was lovingly known as to 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown on Thursday, April 18, from 4 to 8 p.m., continuing Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be noon on Friday, April 19, at St. James Catholic Church with burial immediately following at St. James Cemetery. Barbara Helen Cecil, 81 Barbara Helen Cecil, 81, of Bardstown, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Flaget Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 9, 1943, in Nelson County. She was employed as a teacher from 1970-2005 at DeSales High School in Louisville, and was a resident of Nazareth Village II, since 2010.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Cecil and Agnes Gondola Bartley Cecil; and two sisters, Debbie Ann Cecil and Janice Carol Cecil. She is sur vived by her brother, John Richard (Bernice) Cecil a niece, Melinda Cecil-Morrison; a nephew, John Richard Cecil and a great-niece, Shelby Morrison, all of Bardstown. Her graveside ser vice will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at St. Joseph Cemeter y.

Keith Edward Ferguson, 64 Keith Edward Ferguson, 64, of Boston, died Monday, April 8, 2024, from complications of multiple myeloma. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Ferguson; his parents, Ed and Sue Ferguson; and a brother, Brian Ferguson.

He is sur vived by his wife, Lesia Ferguson; his son, Jon Ferguson; a daughter-in-law, Heather Ferguson; two grandsons, Kaleb and Hunter Ferguson; his sister, Pam (Byron) Jennings; and many loving family members.
