Leland Morris "Pappy" Martin, 81, of Elizabeth Drive, Ridgeway, who died July 22, 2012, at his home, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Providence United Methodist Church in Patrick Springs. The Rev. David Westmoreland will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. SABRINA R. EAMES Sabrina' Rene Eames, 35, of Hodges Farm Road, Martinsville, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at her home. She was born in Martinsville on March 28, 1977 to Jerry Wayne Moore and Barbara Ann Gilley Moore. Sabrina was a 1995 graduate of Carlisle School and a 1999 graduate of Old Dominion University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services Counseling.

She served as a CASA for Focus on Youth of Martinsville, before becoming a stay-at-home mother to her three children, Adrianna Grace Eames, Blake Daniel Eames, and Christian Alexander Scott Eames. She used her voice to advocate on behalf of those who could not speak for themselves. This voice was also used in praise to God as a singer and is now lending that voice to angelic choruses. She attended Community Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Riley and Eldean Gilley and a paternal grandfather, Forest Grady Moore.

In addition to her parents and children, she is survived by her husband, Richard Daniel Earnes of the home; stepmother, Trona Moore of Martinsville; a brother, Tim Moore and wife; Michelle of Martinsville; mother-in-law, Fran Scott and husband, Charles of Collinsville; father-in-law, Richard Eames and wife, Jennifer of Danville; three sisters-in law, Marlene Eames Woods and husband, Jim of Martinsville, Dana. Eames Waddell and husband, Brian of Martinsville, and Rachel Eames of Danville; brother-in-law, Daniel Eames of Danville; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett with Pastor Michael Harrison officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Martin was born in Patrick County on Aug. 8,1930, to Hilda Biggs Martin' and R.W. Martin. In addition to his parents, he was pre ceded in death by his wife, Mildred "Butch" L. Martin Martin, and three brothers, Glenn Martin, Winford C.

Martin and an infant. He was a 1949 graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School in Critz, and earned a degree in English from Berea College in Kentucky in 1953. He also received a master's degree from the University of Tennessee. In December 1954, he joined the Air Force and completed pilot training in May 1956. A command pilot in the Air Force, he also held a commercial rating with the Federal Aviation Administration.

He was a Vietnam veteran and participated in 10 of the '17 campaigns of conflict and flew 26 combat missions. He was co editor of the official 1970 history of the Vietnam War. Martin retired as a colonel after years of service which included command of four Air Force bases. Completing the Air War College while on active duty, he earned another masters degree from the University of Texas Pan American in 1993. Martin also became a certified machinist and earned an associate degree in tool and die making from Texas State Technical College in 1999.

After retiring from the Air Force, Martin was associated with the Confederate Air Force as deputy executive director and executive director of the American Airpower Heritage Foundation. For 12 years, he taught U.S. history at the University of Texas Pan American College. Martin became the first commandant of the McGuire NCO Academy in 1977, and was the guest speaker at the inactivation ceremony after three decades of operation, when the academy closed. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 which reads I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. She will be sadly missed by Blake, Adrianna, Christian, Mama, Tim, Michelle, Jeremy, Lindsey, Ben, Seth, Dawson and her extended family.

Sabrina is now singing with the angels. We can still hear her singing the words to her favorite hymn. "The anchor holds, though the ship is battered. The anchor holds, though the sails are torn. I have fallen on my knees.
