Dr Kylie-Anne Richards

Lecturer - Finance Discipline Group, UTS

Kylie-Anne is an academic with research and teaching interests in sustainable finance, green finance, ESG and high-frequency finance. She has developed and lectures in the sustainable finance subjects offered in the UTS Master of Finance, MBA, Executive MBA, Master of Financial Planning and Microcredential suite.

An internationally published academic with papers appearing in the ‘International Journal of Financial Engineering’ and ‘Statistical Inference for Stochastic Processes’,Kylie-Anne is the Deputy Chief Investment Officer and leads the implementation of responsible investment practices at Fortlake.She is also a member of the Fortlake Asset Management Board and a board member of IAM Funds.

Kylie-Anne has extensive global industry experience, having worked for the Macquarie Group in Hong Kong as Head of Financial Engineering for Asia Pacific and Head of Indexation and Quantitative Trading Research at CLSA in Sydney. Most recently she held the position of Director, Portfolio Manager at QTR Capital.

Lecturer - UTS Business School

Chris was awarded a PhD in Applied Finance and Actuarial Studies at Macquarie University in 2017. He researches in the areas of asset pricing and Behavioral Finance and convenes the Unit, AFIN8018 - Investments.

Chris has published in the Journal of Behavioral Finance and Applied Economics, while outside of academia, he is an entrepreneur who has founded a number of ventures. One of his ventures is a company that provides funding solutions to the coffee industry and an online platform that facilitates commodity transactions with a focus on green coffee.

Assessment

Assessment task 1: Quizzes Weighting 35%

Assessment Criteria:

  • Understanding the sustainability challenges and the role which sustainable finance plays in meeting UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Apply knowledge of Environmental, Social and Governance within the role of long-term value creation
  • Analyse the appropriate frameworks and how these are applied to responsible investment policies

Assessment task 2: Assignment Weighting 65%

Assessment Criteria:

  • Demonstration via the responsible investment policy how an asset management firm can contribute to the transition of the economy to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Depth of analysis to identify the financially material ESG factors in long term value creation within the investment process and the role this plays at the entity level
  • Identification and application of appropriate frameworks in the development of the responsible investment policy for the organization

To pass this course, participants must complete both assessment tasks and achieve an overall mark of 50 and above (minimum Pass). The weighting for each assessment task is indicated in brackets.
