I'm not talking so much about actors who have to don a particular toupee for a particular historical role, but more those who tend to pass it off as their own hair, more or less. Sean Connery is the obvious example. Well, maybe not, because half the time he's his baldy self, but was he already in a wig in the early Bonds? I know that he had serious baldy bits in THE OFFENCE and ZARDOZ at the start of the '70s. Ray Milland had a boyish charm. Even in the mid-'70s he had that boyish charm, but that was due to his unconvincing rug. And, curiously, whenever he had to play the grumpy elder statesman, he took it off. I remember that even as far back as THE PERSUADERS, Tony Curtis was a bit thin on top. Then suddenly, in more recent times, he was always seen in a huge bequiffed white Mr Whippy thing. I think he's back to his baldy normality now. Not many people know that Christopher Lee has been bald since the late '50s. He always got a bit annoyed if people thought it wasn't his real hair. But when Billy Wilder asked him to go baldy for THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES, what could he do? This was Billy Wilder! So he is baldy in that film. Thereafter Lee went back to wearing his Dracula wig, hoping we'd forgotten about his head in the Wilder film. So, what actors do you think look quite charismatic without much hair, and which ones do you think really need that extra thatch on top? I'm asking this because I'm a bit baldy myself.

What about Nic Cage. Perhaps if he wasn't bald he wouldn't be subjected to all the awful wigs he's worn in his last few movies. I mean - every single movie - awful hair. Max Gail who played Wojohowitz on Barney Miller. Always had pretty good hair...then in the last season he changed his toup - the color and the style, and it was so obviously a toup after that, I always wondered why he didn't go back to the one that looked good.

He played an outlaw in a episode of "Gunsmoke". and got involved with a fight scene with actor Roger Ewing (Thad Greenwood), who gave him a good left to that jaw that knocked off Shatner's hat, and as a result his toupee got lopsided as he fell to the ground! (this can be seen on the episode).
