Ducky One 3 SF Yellow Review

Typing this on they Ducky One 3 SF. I LOVE this board. I got it with the cherry MX silvers and it is SO light and pleasant to type on. The sound is absolutely perfect too. It's not too loud and it is very satisfying. The keycaps feel great. Super high quality. They also come with bonus keycaps that you can swap out. Built quality is solid. USB C cable is detachable and matches the striking yellow color of the board. The backlighting options are really good too. It has every mode imaginable, and you can set custom lighting zones. Haven't tested out macro's yet. The only thing that could make this board more premium is if it had a metal frame. But at this price point, I think it is already a really great buy. Especially for people like me who are too lazy to build their own.

Ducky One 3 SF Yellow Review

I usually build my own customs but for gaming the polling rate of them is too low, so I picked this up for -Form Factor -Price -1000Hz Polling Rate - Reputation When it was delivered it came with black scratches on the right side of the case next to the enter key, along with the enter key being scratched itself. Wasn't a big deal to me so I didn't bother reaching out for a new one. The build is very nice, has good sound and the best stabilizers I've seen on a pre-built board. For typing and general games this board is perfect, but unfortunately I play a game that requires extremely close to perfect timed key presses at a very fast pace (osu!) and this board has a tendency to double tap or even more with single key presses quite often. I'm not sure if this is due to it being hotswap or not but this board is too inconsistent to use for this specific game. For almost 99% of usage this board is great, but the black scratches straight from the box and inconsistency for me does not allow me to give this more than 3 stars. If you play osu! I advise against getting this board.

Ducky One 3 SF Yellow Review

This is the first mechanical keyboard I've kept (after two Keychrons with issues I otherwise really liked) and it is just fantastic! It is nearly perfect. The keyboard is gorgeous. It is a beautiful yellow color. I got it right before they came out with the black/white versions, which I probably would have gone with instead. But I like how it stands out on my desk and gives some contrast to my otherwise boring setup. The Daybreak is just too flashy/gamer aesthetic for me. The yellow is fun and bold; just think hard about it fitting into your setup long term. The fit and finish, along with the color matching accessories, are really well done. The first thing I noticed when typing was the texture of the keycaps. Pretty rough compared to other keyboards at first, but now I really like the texture. I wouldn't want to go back to smoother caps. The keys I got and have kept in are Cherry MX Clear. They are like browns but have a bit more resistance. I really really like them and probably won't switch to something new until I get bored someday. I had Gateron Browns on my Keychrons before. I am using this keyboard for mixed use gaming/typing. I really like the tactile feedback for touch typing. I don't have to press down all the way to get feedback that the key has been pressed. They aren't super smooth like linear switches, but I think they feel good. Gaming response time is great. Haven't had any issues with key chatter or anything. I verified I had the latest firmware on my Windows 10 PC when I got it. I am primarily using this keyboard with a M1 MacBook Air. It has worked great with zero issues. I haven't messed with any of the dip switches on the back to change the Windows/Command location, as I actually prefer using the Windows button location for Command in Mac OS. It's just a shorter distance to get my pinky to. I'm glad I got the SF layout. Saves a lot of space on my desk but retains the arrow keys which I'm glad I still have. Now for a couple downsides I've noticed that prevent me from giving this board five stars. The biggest is why oh why Ducky did you not make the keycaps shine-through!? I really really appreciate backlit keyboards. I touch-type for the most part, but it's nice when I look down not to have to strain my eyes. On top of the backlight being basically worthless for me (again not looking for a flashy aesthetic), the lettering is in white which looks nice but is hard to see against the yellow (in a lot of lighting conditions). I wish they would have gone with gray letters. The second downside, which is minor, is the board sounds great to me but it is a bit pingy. Nothing major but it is noticeable. So someday I'll probably get some shine-through keycaps. I really do like the quality of the keycaps otherwise and would probably go with Ducky. I think Red would look slick with the yellow frame. And maybe new switches would help with the ping? Overall I really like this board and will hang onto it forever I think. It's perfect for someone that wants a quality board they can put new switches in someday without spending a ton of time building their board from scratch.

Ducky One 3 SF Yellow Review

I've switch my switches from silvers to the Zealios V2s and it's absolutely fantastic to type on. Comparing this to something like the One 2 and MIYA, this is one of my 'quieter' keyboards I owned, and I like that. The main problem with the keyboard is after firmware updating, I have been experiencing a lot of key chatter. I dont know if its the hardware itself or firmware but I am pretty sure it is firmware related and I REALLY hope they get it fixed asap. I love to type on this keyboard but key chatter makes it very annoying to type and game on. This still happens even if I switch back to my silvers.
