Comprehensive Talisman Guide (with math) Elden Ring (2024)

Ah yes, I immediately realized I messed up something. I forgot to do the soreseal calc with multiplicative rule yesterday when I last changed the example, ugh.
27% negation = 0.73
0.73 * 1.15 (from soreseals) => 0.84
1 - 0.84 = 16% negation, not 12% negation.
1900/0.84 = 2261 EHP vs 2166 (Heirloom)
Actual EHP of soreseals is a bit higher than heirloom! So, it actually works a bit better than Heirloom in the example assuming no pots since you get all the bonus stuff sprinkled in. However, as I mentioned, this is already using a test massively favoring soreseals (directly changing all points into vigor to tap into the high % growth of vigor!) Sorry I messed up the example. I was feeling something was off when I compared it to my other older examples. Should've seen it >.> Still, because your stat won't actually all get focused onto vigor to calculate % benefit, Soreseals are only about as good as Heirloom talismans in duels where there are no HP pots. All other places, they're basically weaker.
ONE MORE THING! This is assuming you're not hardswapping mid-battle. I know people often hardswap crimson amber into blessed dew for free HP as an example.
ONE MORE MORE THING! The longtail cat talisman thing was supposed to be a joke xD There is a window where you take fall damage but don't die. Longtail negates fall damage if you jump within this 4m range. It's suppose to be sattire.

    By coincidence I wrote essentially a whole research paper on the Soreseal too in hopes of a different youtuber picking it up (you can whisper me at soleil_soleil_soleil_ on Twitch if you want a view-only copy), and figured that it would be more likely for Radagon's Soreseal to compete with Erdtree's Favor +2 for a talisman slot, rather than one of the "stat +5" talismans. (Especially in a meta where you're likely to stack poise with bullgoat + great jar, and then stick shard of alexander on top, for pretty much any melee build.) From a non-mathematical standpoint, it looks like "a little bit of health, stam, and load with no downsides" versus "the same, but with more attack power too, and the downside of more damage taken". Not withstanding the EF+2 talisman's extra weight (1.5 vs 0.8) the calculations skew heavily in favor of the Soreseal for invader builds below RL90-ish (mid 40s base vigor), and marginally in favor of it for below RL120-ish (high 40s/low 50s base vigor).
    The basic procedure is to (1) take a build with EF+2 at some specific rune level and calculate the eHP and stamina (or load, depending on what you care about) (2) reduce VIG/END/STR/DEX by 5 each, (3) swap in the Soreseal, and then (4) pump vigor and endurance until the eHP and stamina (or load) of the Soreseal build equalizes with those of the EF+2 build. After you've done that, based on whether you went under, or had to exceed, the rune level of the EF+2 build to match the eHP/stam/load with your Soreseal build, you have a clean measurement of the number of 'free levels' the Soreseal provides over EF+2.
    There's some other complications I won't bother getting into here, but figured it would be prudent to put this info out there in case you are interested in the math on the low- and mid-end freeform multiplayer as well as meta level dueling. [Edit: Made minor edits for grammar/spelling]

    @@soleil2947 The problem with this assumption is that you SHOULDN'T have that low of a vigor on an optimized build already. The lower the vigor, the more it favors soreseals, but such an assumption already makes the build unoptimal. There is also no point pushing stats to match Erdtree's because they should have markedly different stat distributions since that is exactly what soreseals are for. Even in a duel setting for RL100~120, unless your armor is not optimized for 61+ poise minimum, there is no chance soreseal comes close to pushing out Erdtree +2 unless the assumptions were already off.
